Record Management refers to the creation, control and disposal of records. In other words, it covers the lifecycle of records from their creation to final disposition.
The Assam State Archives is the nodal agency of the Government of Assam for implementation of the Public Records Act, 2002. As per the mandate of Assam Public Records Act 2002, the Assam State Archives is responsible for not only keeping in its safe custody the records of various departments of the Government of Assam, but also streamlining their management by laying down guidelines and standards for good management practices and facilitating transfer of all Government records of enduring value, on completion of 25 years to State Archives for use by administrators and scholars.
Assam State Archives also provides technical support to all the State Government departments and other custodial institutions on all matters relating to the management, administration, preservation and disposal of records.
